Netflix

I am pretty sure everyone knows what Netflix is, but if you don’t it is basically an online DVD rental service where they will send you DVDs through the mail and there are no late fees. To get more DVDs just send them back as fast as you can. Some common rental plans are 1, 2, 3 DVDs out at a time for a set price a month. The current cost can be found here http://www.netflix.com/HowItWorks .

I love the Netflix site because it is very well throughout and a pretty clean interface. I compared it to the Blockbuster online site and thought Netflix won hands down. You can just spend lots of time on the site and peruse DVDs. Netflix also has way more distribution centers it seems than Blockbuster and way more titles. Well I’m basing titles based on the Anime selection I guess. HAHA, but that is what I care about most anyways!

Anyways the point of this post is if you want to get higher quality versions of your favorite anime then use this service! You could chose to download them, but with a lot of older anime it is harder and harder to do these days unless you use IRC, DC++(That still around?), or find some good newsgroups. Netflix has a pretty large selection of anime and they have a lot of copies it seems.

Also good benefit of using Netflix instead of downloading anime is that you are safer from getting sued. Most likely your anime has been licensed already. If your ISP decides to sell out its customers than you can sleep a little better. Also I know some people are pretty lazy, or lack the technical knowledge of outputting the downloaded anime to a bigger size TV can benefit from this if they are inclined. I mean if you are going to spend hours watching anime, then watch it on a bigger screen with better sound! (Bingerama)

Tip: If you want to maximize the amount of movies you get per month with this service I recommend using a program called DVDFab (You can use the free version) which will decrypt any copy protections a DVD may have and copy it to your computer’s hard drive, then you can use a program called DVDShrink(free program) to shrink the DVD files and copy it to a cheap DVD disc, or keep it at its full size and copy it to a slightly more expensive dual layer disc. Up to you on how you want to do it. If you are watching on a non HD TV set than I doubt you will notice any quality differences shrinking the DVD to the cheap disc. After ripping to the hard drive just send those suckers back. I usually can average about 6 new DVDs a week by doing this.
